255w giving erroneous routes

My garmin 255w tells me to make right turns when there is no roads. It also tells me to make right turn at a street when I should be making left.
The simulated trip freezes.
My computer I think messed up my files, when updating. I bought a new garmin shortly after this problem and when I updated it, it didn't work anymore and I returned it to Best Buy.
I reinstalled operating system in computer and it works fine.
Mean while I have a good 255w with corrupt files and would like to get it to work properly.
What can I do? Contacted garmin and they could not help me.

What type of files were transferred from your computer to the 255w that caused the problem? , were they 255w system files, map files, GPX route / track files etc.

I don't know. The computer files were corrupt also. The transfer was done about four years ago
