Hi everyone as this is my first post I apologise in advance if my question seems a bit simple.

my problem regards the GPS coordinates for a site in Spain. As an example we have booked camping Tauro in Benicassim in spain . The coordinates are given are as 40 °2'14" N 0°2'27" E and I understand that the ACSI coordinates are always in h ddd mm ss.ss. my question is as my Garmin camper sat nav has the degrees and then 2 spaces to the ' symbol and then 4 spaces for the " so when the ACSI coordinates only have a total of 5 numbers as the Tauro ones how do I enter the coordinates please.
    thank you, Algy

Hi algy, This is a very common question, Latitude / Longitude is a minefield

In your example you would enter :-

    N 40°02'14.00"
    E 0002'27.00"

    Explanation:-
    1) North, South, East or West symbol moved to the left
    2) RED digits are zeros that must be added
    3) For N and S ddd is only dd (00 - 89)
    4) For E and W ddd is ok (000 - 179)
    3) ASCI use ss in place of ss.ss

    Hello
If I have understood it correctly, I have just been sent the following coordinates for a site near Benidorm it is
    GPS N38º33´36" WOº05´54" so if I have it right I should change it to N 38°33'0036'" W000°05'0054"

    Thank you Algy

No not quite right, it should be :-

    N 38°33'36.00"
    W 0005'54.00"

    1) The Red zeros will always be zero unless there is a decimal point for the "seconds", you have been given ss not ss.ss
    2) The green zeros have to be added to fill ddd and mm

If you have Google Earth on a computer, you can try out the co-ordinates by entering them in the search window like this :-
