I have a new Garmin 1450T that came with the US/Canada maps. I added
a Micro SD card and loaded a map of Europe onto it. I need some help
on how to access that map. The instructions aren't clear--if they
exist at all in the Garmin documentation.

    Assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  2. Is the Europe map routable? It won't be able to give you
    turn-by-turn directions if it isn't.

I've got a Nuvi 1350. Hopefully the menus are similar enough.

    Tools / Settings / Map / Info

Then tick the map you want, and untick the other one.

    ok - exact details needed....

What do you mean you added a Micro SD card & loaded a map onto it ?
From where did you get the map ?

All avail map images are shown in the menu -
    On my 255 -
Tools -> Settings -> Map -> at bottom Map Info button

    Only checkmarked maps will display
And of course, if you are not anywhere in the Country -
then you need to try the Simulator

BTW - you do realize that Garmin maps are "locked" - other/outside maps are
    different -
A - downloaded Garmin maps are locked to the serial number of the device
    requested
B - purchased on Garmin Micro SD cards are locked to the internal serial
    number of the card,
    and can't be copied...

I love it where a question gets asked,
various answers appear - along with the questions asking for clarification -
and then - we never see the OP again -
    It's like an intellectual cliffhanger.....
what SD card, what map, what was he doing or expecting to happen

I didn't get lost, just been travelling. The map is City Navigator
for Europe Version 10. I put it on an SD card which is in the
Nuvi now. It shows up as gmapsupp.img on the card, but when I go to
Settings/Map/Info it doesn't appear as does CN North America NT
    2011.31.

There's no CN Europe v10, unless so old I don't remember. Well, probably
    it's v. 2011.10 or 2010.10 then.

I put it on an SD card which is in the

If the device tells "not able to load maps" or smth like this, ir means it
can't find the right key file for the map. It must be together with the map
file in the same folder named Garmin on the card. Use our friend google to
find out how. If you got somewhere an unlocked map file, it's possible the
device doesn't recognize it. AFAIK all xxxmodels accept unlocked maps, but
some of the 1xxx models don't. Search again, here are just directions to
    your solution.

    Here we go again!

I don't have the same maps you have, so I just give you the GENRAL
information and it should work with all maps and all models.

    1. Install MapSource to your computer

    2. Install the Map Data(s) you want to install to your GPS. City Navigator
    America/Eu or whatever to computer.

    3. Run MapSource, then ADD whatever Map Data(s) you want to tranfer to your
GPS. If you want to transfer to external memory card then you don't have to
add the map in internet memory.

Make sure that the number of BLOCK not exceed the limitation (it's 2xxx
blocks I don't remember the exact number)

    4. Tell MapSource you want to transfer the selected map(s) to external
    memory card.. and that's it!

From the GPS, go to SETUP -> Map Info (or whatever) then you should see a
list of available maps from Internal memory and external memory card. Enable
the map you want to use, and disable the map you don't want to use.

Can you explain exactly what steps you followed
to get the map onto the SD card,
so we can see what might have happened...
    ie - like the following Q&A -

1 - where did you purchase or get the map ?
    2 - did you download it ?
or buy it on a "different" SD card ?
    from where ?
3 - did you specifiy a specific GPS serial number during download ?
    4 - etc....

  12. Do your SD card have a top-level folder/directory called
"Garmin"? It should have one, and gmapsupp.img should be in
    that folder.

Thanks to you all for the advice. It turns out that the GPS was
defective and I returned it to the store last nignt. Among other
things, it sometimes took 5+ minutes to find the satellites. And the
roads I was on (after updating to the latest NA City Navigator) didn't
show up on the screen: most recently US 20 in Iowa. It showed me
driving through a cornfield. This road did show up on my old GPS.
