Alpine iLX-107

Good morning, I am new to this site. I am having a bit of an issue with my Navigation system in my truck. I am using Apple Maps through my Alpine iLX-107 head unit and Wireless Carplay through my Iphone 8 Plus. I live in Ottawa, Canada. Anytime I go out of the city and try to use my nav system, its telling me that my International Roaming is turned off? Ofcourse my data roaming is turned off as I do not want a large cell bill. Is anyone else having similar issues? I am used to having a Garmin which never had any of these problems? Any solution?

I am not familiar with the Alpine Units, but in some of their descriptions it does mention 'Online Navigation', so wouldn't you expect it to require a cell-phone link?
