I have been trying desperately to track down some information on the
old Avstar (also known as IVS) Navigator units.

I have one of the units but am lacking a map disc for Southern
California. Unfortunately the company is out of business, so I am
hoping to also find someone who knows how to generate an activation
code for the CD. I believe the codes are generated based on the serial
number of the unit. I am even willing to pay for this, so that
    everything is legit.

These units were made only about 5 years ago, yet I have found
amazingly little information floating around out there. If anyone can
    help, please let me know!

    Thanks in advance.

Although I doubt that you're still interested, I think I can give you an activiation code. I worked for the company that took over this product after AVSTAR closed. I may have a spare map disk if you need that, too. (This product is kind of tedious to use, but it did a pretty good job of navigating within the supported regions. Our company,VCommand, significantly improved the user interface and enabled maps for the entire U.S. on an internal hard drive, but we were unable to get the sales volume we needed to support us.)
