The Etrex 30x does function, but I cannot update or access it.
The problem started when an update of the Etrex was suddenly stopped due to a power failure of my computer.
Garmin Express finds my etrex 30x. But it doesn't support it.
When I install Garmin Map Updater and run it I get the message: Cannot connect to the server.
With WebUpdater I cannot reinstall the software. It displays the message 'The update is damaged".
Basecamp detects the Etrex, but it detects no maps. Only tracks are shown.
In mass storage mode windows 10 detects the etrex as a removable disk, but cannot access it.
A linux-system does find the Etrex and is able to access is.
I tried everything Garmin-support suggested. The last email of them said that I have to buy a new device.
What can I do? (is it possible that someone can sent my a image of the original firmware, which I can install through my linux-laptop)

What was being updated?, was it the operating system (firmaware) on the 30x or was it updating maps ?

What computer program was you using for this update?

In what way does it not support it ?

This appears to be a failure between the computer and the internet rather than between computer and 30x

This sounds like there is an update file on your 30x which was not installed due to the file being corrupted, it may be that if this file was removed from the 30x (after copying the file to a computer for safety), that you may be able to re-run the update process

Do you have Lifetime map updates for the 30x?

First of all: thank you for your response.

It was updating maps

Garmin Express

In what way does it {Garmin Express} not support it {the 30x}?
I don't know. After finding the Etrex it says that it doesn't support the Etrex and I must use 'Garmin Map Updater' with a download link.

Yes I agree, but I can't find a solution for it. I also tried to disable the firewall. Unfortunatly I'm getting the same error.

Can you tell me which file this is and where I can find it? Then I can use my linux-system to back it up and remove it.

No

OK so you was installing Maps using Garmin Express, so Express was working at the time and presumably only started to display 'Does Not Support' after your power loss problem, That is good because there should be no corruption of the 30x's operating software, only the map software.

I still have a question, If you don't have Lifetime map updated, how did you to get Garmin Express to give you a new version of the Map?

On my GPSMap64s the map files are here :-

Internal Memory area (4GB):- /Garmin/map1.img, map2.img and map3.img

MicroSD card (32GB):- /Garmin/map4.img and map5.img

If you copy the *.img file(s) from the Internal Memory area to your computer, remove them from your 30x and remove the microSD card (if fitted), you may get Garmin Express to re-send the map to your 30x, however there is another problem, Garmin Express might look for a old map on your 30x so that it knows which map to upgrade, if it finds no maps it might not offer to give the 30x a new map, it is worth trying this though

Thank you for your advise.
I copied and removed the gmapprom files. (I use also open maps and topo-maps)
Unfortunitly it didn't solve my problems. The Etrex itself works fine so far.
I can't access it with my windows computer (exlorer).
Any new ideas?
(I can use it and when I remove the sd-card I can store maps and routes to it. )

OK so the corrupted file must be on the microSD card, you should find the same file system there, e.g. [microSD] /Garmin/*.img files, you can copy the *.img files in the microSD to your computer and then delete them one at a time to see which one is causing the problem

I'm sorry, but I ment that when I remove the sd-card van etrex and put it straight into my computer, I can copy maps and routes to. (so I can still use it)
I think the main problem is: windows 10 detects the etrex as a removable disk (mass storage mode), but cannot access it. (Even without the sd-card) I think that is why BaseCamp can't detect the etrex.

So when I use the sd-card directly on my computer, I still can use my etrex.
