Can't start Trimble GeoXT

Hi, my company has a Trimble GeoXT. Recently while backing up the data the green on/off button stopped working. I noticed that normally when turning on/off the unit the green button would make a clicking noise when activating. However, when shutting down the unit and then turning back on before trying to download my data the green button not longer clicked and as a result it will not start up. People at the company say the unit is dead but I feel that only the on/off switch is broken and the unit is fine. Can anyone provide info on who is right? If I'm right we should be able to send the unit to someone for fixing and recovering our data, right?
