DriveSmart 61 advance notification timing

My DriveSmart 61 is very good in general but there is one really annoying point. When it gives a navigation instruction to turn, that instruction comes way to early. Often the turning involved isn't even in view and there may be two or three other turnings before I get there. Is there some way of shortening the advance timing? ( I know they can be turned off, but that isn't what I want).
