Drivesmart 86 Creating Routes

I own a Tom Tom that failed 1 year into a two year warranty and I can't get any support from TomTom. I'm considering buying the Drivesmart 86 and would like to know if there is any way to create my own routes/trips and upload to the unit. I used to have a Garmin 2797 and was able to create routes in Basecamp and upload but don't see that option now with Garmin units. Ive tried to find a way to contact Garmin but there doesn't seem to be any way if I don't create an account and can't do without owning one.

I can't see any reason why this can't be done on the Drivesmart 86, you would create a route in Bascamp and send it to the 86, the new route would be found in 'Route Planner', the new name for 'Trip Planner', why do you think it won't work ?
