  3. However if you have registered a Garmin GPS on their site and contact
customer support and explain how you managed to lose it, rather than
just 'give it to a friend', I guess they might help out. Especially if
you can quote the serial number.

Unlike the mapping, they do at least own the rights to T&W manager.

  5. 'Included in the price' is not the same as 'free'.

T&WM is given away for free with some Garmin GPS receivers, some of the
handhelds at least. And it is priced about right at free, it is pretty
    worthless without any better mapping.

Download and install the Garmin Training Center. Then download the
latest MapSource update and update that to the current version of
    MapSource.

I think that will give you the same thing as you'd get with T&WM. It
may be missing a rather coarse base map though. I can't remember if
MapSource comes with sort of minimal a base map or not.

  7. Frankly it should just be free. It is a pretty worthless without the
maps, as pointed out by another poster. If you just want to use it for
waypoint and route management, you still need a Garmin GPS. I can see
them charging to order the CD but why not allow free downloads?

One actual 'use' for it beyond just the basic waypoint management, is it
    lets you manage custom maps.

One could in theory download all free (detailed) mapsets, and trip and
waypoint manager, and never buy *any* detailed garmin maps.
