Hello folks,

Well, I have used Garmin products for years. I use it for hiking in a lot of the NP's, fly fishing adventures, and for driving. So yes for driving there are better devices. This has worked like a hammer but has developed a slight issue “It may be an error on my behalf”.

So, I use basecamp to plot out points and stuff for navigating and hiking. What I have noticed all of a sudden it will not take the major highways as the best way to go home. It chooses smaller state highways. If anyone can offer some help, I would really appreciate it.

To be clear for example I was up fishing on the Lake Ontario tributaries. I had my home waypoint set. I choose to navigate home.

It then chosen lesser state routes for my entire ride home. It would even parallel Interstate 90 lol.

I found you guys/gals and looking for advice because right now I am so confused! lol

From any screen
Menu >> Menu >> Setup >> System >> Routing >> Automobile Driving

Menu >> Menu >> Setup >> System >> Routing >> Avoidance Setup >>
Select :- U-Turns, Toll Roads, Interstate Highways, Major Highways, Unpaved Roads, Carpool Lanes, Ferries

Then While you are Navigating to a location :-
Find >> Change Activity >> Automobile Driving

NOTE
Green 'tick' = Avoid is on = Don't use this feature for navigation
Red 'No Entry' = Avoid is off = this feature can be used for navigation

That sounded like great advice and I thank you, but unless I am rreally doing some thing wrong here are my results!

OK, you have configured 'Automobile Driving' as shown in your first picture and you have configured the 'Avoid' in your second picture, BUT you must also select the correct profile eg. This line :-

Then While you are Navigating to a location :-
Find >> Change Activity >> Automobile Driving
or

Menu >> Menu >> Profile Change >> Automotive

So that 'Current Profile is Automotive' is displayed at the top of the screen

Also in your first picture you could try Calculation Method = Minimum Distance, although it probably won't help

EDIT
The Green 'ticks' in post #4 above are showing Avoid is on, they should be Red, I have edited some posts to make it clearer
