Garmin etrex 22x maps

New here, I have general knowledge with gps. Used off shore base mounts frequently. Got this handheld unit for hunting out of state. The mapping seems so primitive. It shows elevation but no color, detail, state land boundaries ect. Am I doing something wrong or Is there something I need to buy and download into the unit?

You don't say which map you have on your 22x, but I would expect it to be supplied with a Topo Active map like this one :-



Is yours similar ?, does it match the picture on the box ?
