I have a Garmin Etrex Vista HCx which has built in memory and facility for a 4Gb SD Card. I want to put a map on the SD Card and then access it. At the moment UK maps are on the built in memory but I want to put North American maps on the SD Card. I have one in gmapsupp.img format which I put on the SD Card within a Garmin directory as Garmin/gmapsupp.img. The trouble is, I cannot see it on the Etrex. How can I swap between the buit in memory and the SD Card?

I am using a Mac computer.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    P.S. I have BaseCamp installed.

    Thanks

    Brian

On my GPSmap60Cx (which probably has similar screens), the steps would be :- repeatedly press PAGE to get to the Map screen >> Menu >> Setup Map >> Enter >> Map Setup - Information >> Menu, this will display a Map Menu page with selectable option like this :-
    Hide Basemap
    Hide International Marine
    Hide OSM Generic Routable

Each of the 'Hide' options toggles a certain layer of maps between 'Hide' and 'Show' for all the maps the Garmin can see on both internal and MicroSD cards

For the Etrex HCx, the relevant user manual pages are 23 >> 29 >> 41

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately my GPS doesn't have those options. It seems strange that I can use an SD Card and put the map on it but cannot access it.

Did you look at the pages mentioned in #2 above? Here is part of page 41 of the manual (see the bottom line) :-
