gmapsupp.img vs gmapprom.img

Hi,
When you put with mapsource a map on an SD card in your Garmin
navigation unit (for instance Nuvi 200) you see a file on the SD card
with the name gmapsupp.img.
The other day i saw a file with the name gmapprom.img.
Does anybody know what this means?
