GPS + wireless remote

I wanna get some gps readings in the woods where there is no signals. trees you know.
The idea is to launch a unit above the trees with balloons and be able to collect a reading by wireless remote.
Move to the next place ...

What kind of inexpensive gps gadget would also offer a wireless remote.. hmmm
