I used a 60 CSx for years. Own 2 now and love their accuracy. However about 2 years ago, I decided I needed a paperless machine so I bought the 62s. My main complaint is poor battery performance. I have the screen set to time out in 2 minutes and have done e everything I can think of to help with battery life. Also, whenever batteries do need to be replaced when I do a compass recalibration, the 3rd step is unsuccessful more often than not.
I really dont want to have to use a smart phone to get info needed and I dont want to spend 400 bucks on a new machine. Any suggestions appreciated.

The problem with all the 'extras' that are added to GPSs is that they all take power, for this reason I would be reluctant to buy any of these units where you can't turn the extras off, in the case of the compass it is possible to turn off, (see manual page 15), also try dimming the display. Other 'extras' that 'eat batteries' include :- barometer/altimeters, cameras/picture viewers and Ant/Wifi communications, these can't always be turned off and will inevitably lead to poor battery life
