How often is the maps updated?

I have a Garmin Nuvi 1490, which have the maps 2016.10. I got these 2 months ago or more, and they could be much older than that. They do not contain important motorway changes in Denmark and navigates erraneously.

Does anyone know how often Garmin updates the maps?

Garmin claim that City Navigator maps are released 'up to' four times per year, 2016.20 is rumoured to be released in November 2015 for the North American maps

Garmin is now indicating that there will only be three maps per year. We will see.

Thanks for the info. I had expected it to be far more often actually. It has now been navigating erraneously for 3 months due to a new motorway build.
