    Hi,

I need an inexpensive GPS unit that outputs NMEA 0183 data.

I have a VHF radio that accepts NMEA 0183 as input, but my chartplotter does not output NMEA data. I feel there should be the equivalent of the numerous USB and Bluetooth units but that outputs NMEA data instead.

    Any suggestions?

The price is certainly right. Do you know what kind of cable I would need?

Yes on the back of the Etrex there are 4 gold 'pads', here is a picture of my Etrex and connector, I got this 4 way connector from pfranc.com but I'm not sure they are still around, the other end of the cable is a female 9 way 'D' connector, I have also seen pictures of versions where the cable has the 4 way plug on one end and a serial (RS232) to USB converter + USB plug on the other end
