Hi guys,
I've been given the job of coming up with a way of being able to use a tablet to survey underwater, geotagging any info entered. So the tablet needs to have a GPS connected to it somehow. The simplest solution seems to be to get a GPS with bluetooth to connect to the tablet, with an external antenna running to the surface on a buoy. Making a housing for a GPS would be relatively simple since it doesn't need to be access while in operation, and there's already housings for tablets. The problem is that the cheapest GPS I can find that would be able to do this is $1400 (Trimble Juno 3 series), which seems a bit steep.
There are plenty of GPS units with Bluetooth, and plenty with external antenna capabilities, but it seems that it's been about 4 years since anyone built a consumer-grade unit that could do both (and the 4 year old ones only want to talk to PalmOS and similar).
Would anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
