people were doing this 10 years ago. Why an article on obsolete
technology that is over a decade old?

And where can you legally mount such a mess in today's vehicles?

My little Magellan Maestro 3220, size of a pack of cigarettes, has all
of North America, including Canada, and, Mexico, + coterminous USA in
a micro card, and has voice navigation. Why go backwards?

There is interest in the technology, hence the article :)
But I agree with you. Laptop GPS is not for most people. For most users a
little PND is just fine. But there are those who have special requirements,
need certain features or functionality that only a laptop solution can meet.
