I have a Nuvi 2555LM, about ten or so years old.

Recently it has started rebooting itself at seemingly random times. Sometimes it will restart three or four times in quick succession before settling down and doing its job.

I contacted Garmin and they said that because of the age, they didn't offer any support.

Poking around on the internet, I found a suggestion to reformat the SD card. I tried reformatting then updated the maps but it still reboots on its own.

Any suggestions?

Have you recently added new maps to the 2555?, resetting can occur if the Nuvi finds something in a map it doesn't like, you could try a full unit reset (note you need to back up your waypoints, routes etc. first), you could also temporarily try running the 24555 without the microSD card to see if it still reboots

Restoring Settings
You can restore a category of settings or all
settings to the factory default values.
1 Select Settings.
2 If necessary, select a settings category.
3 Select > Restore

I updated the maps a few months ago and again a couple weeks back. The rebooting was happening before that.

I took the SD card out and ran it for a few days with no spontaneous reboots. I formatted the SD card, updated the maps and the rebooting started again.

How do I back up stuff?

Reset it using the option in settings. This morning, it rebooted on the way to work :-(

I might just have to break down and buy a new one.

If you have a different microSD card I would try that, or remove the microSD and store a smaller selection of maps on the internal memory

I'm not sure which of the above mentioned steps fixed it but my Nuvi seems to be working correctly. It hasn't rebooted on its own in two weeks.

Thanks to everyone who offered a suggestion.
