Hi everyone, as above, my Premium X wont turn on at all after a battery change, it seems that it is not charging And the battery has gone flat, any idea's what is the matter with it?

That post is from one of the untreated sewage dwellers otherwise known as spammers.

Ok, thanks for that, I thought I was on the wrong site at first.

Welcome to the forum! A flashing red battery light with no power after a battery replacement is a frustrating but recognisable problem. Here are the most likely causes to work through:

1. The replacement battery may not be making good contact. After a DIY battery swap, the connector can sometimes be seated just slightly off, or the battery leads reversed. Open the unit back up and check that the battery connector is fully and correctly pushed in, and that no tabs or clips are bent.

2. The new battery voltage must be 3.7V. If a battery of a different voltage was fitted, the unit will refuse to charge or operate. Double-check the replacement battery's label. The mAh rating can vary a little, but the voltage must match exactly.

3. The battery may need a brief initial charge before the unit will boot. Leave it plugged into a known-good charger (ideally the original Garmin one or a quality 1A+ USB charger) for 30-60 minutes before trying to power it on. A completely flat Li-ion cell sometimes needs a trickle charge to recover before the device will respond at all.

4. Check the charging cable and charger. Some Garmin units use a proprietary cable that activates the device via a fifth ID pin in the connector. Using a generic USB cable that looks the same may mean no charging current reaches the battery at all. Try the original Garmin cable and charger if you have them.

If none of the above resolves it, it is worth checking whether the replacement battery is faulty out of the box, which does happen occasionally with third-party cells.
