I have never owned any kind of GPS system before. So as you could imagine I was pretty clueless, but I've been doing some research on the Garmin Nuvi models. There's so many different nuvi models, it was a little overwhelming at first.

Some of the Features I Want
-4.3"+ Screen
-Portable
-Voice-activated navigation (operate device with spoken commands):
-Turn-by-turn directions with voice guidance.
-Lifetime map updates for free.

So the nuvi models that fit my needs are 3790LMT [4.3" Screen]($399), 2460LMT [5" Screen]($299), & 2360LMT [4.3" Screen]($260).

Today I noticed that Best Buy had the 3790T on sale for $219.

If I get the 3790T can I not use it until I purchase the maps? How exactly does that wok?

How often do I have to pay for the maps? Do I pay monthly, yearly is it a one time payment?

I read this in a review on Best Buy.com
Don't forget about the Safety Stops and Speed Zone Camera features. These camera zone warning features are worth the price of the unit. The Safety Stop Camera, indicates what intersection will photo-license your tag if you go over the indicated stop line. The Speed Radar Cameras photo-license your tag, while driving through restriction areas. Knowing when you're approaching either is a must to avoid costly tickets, giving you optimum visual display and audio warning on approach whenever you are over a designated speed.

How many other nuvi models have that feature and what's the feature called?

Thanks in advance.

And also for anybody that has a nuvi model with a 5" screen is it small enough that you can put it in your pocket?
