SA2004 - Voice recognition - how to change voice type from female to male

I seem to have big problems with the voice engine on SA2004. It basically quit working
for more than one command - so I uninstalled the voice engine ane reinstalled it.

Then - to add to my woes I let my kid setup the voice engine for a young female voice.
But now - I am not offered any menu items to put it back.

Just how it can interpret "where am I" as "Pan up" I don't know, but basically it is pretty
    much non-functional right now.

Is there any way short of uninstalling and reinstalling it again that I can get back to the
voice type menu? There is an option to select users, but no option to create a new
user. Should I be able to find this somewhere?

Not knowing what your kid did or where he did it (in SA2004 or outside the
app), the fact that on the Voice/Output Prefs Tab, you don't have any menu
options in the Voice drop-down window, tend to make me think something is
    screwed up.

You need to be aware that the Output Prefs options are for the voice that
talks to you. The Input Prefs is for the speech recognition where you talk
to it and give it commands. That part is the MS Voice Recognition software
that you can re-install without re-installing the entire app. When you did
the initial install, that part is an optional install. The part that talks
to you, which seems to be the problem part, is installed during the main
app's installation. You will probably have to uninstall, reboot then
reinstall the app to fix it. That's not that big of a deal. If you did the
initial training for the speech recognition, I don't think you will have to
re-do that, unless it's not recognizing your commands in which case you
should go thru it again. The more you do, the better it gets as to
    understanding you.

The option to select users is for the voice training in case more than one
person uses the voice recognition, but again, has nothing to do with the
voice the app uses to talk to you.

    Dan,
Thanks for the reply. My problem is in the selection of the users for the voice recognition
part. I now have only one user, which is trained for a young female voice. That is not
me, and it does not understand a word I say. How do I create a new user profile?

Here are some of the basic things you should check before doing more
uninstalling and reinstalling. Go to the Speech part of Control Panel and
set up the microphone. Then go through some more training exercises. If
that doesn't help, I would uninstall and reinstall SA 2004 and the voice
engine. That should solve your problems. Installing SA 2004 without
installing the voice engine at the same time can cause problems. You may
have the engine installed from another application but it won't work with SA
    2004.

I thought maybe SAPI 4 and 5 used the same voice models, so I created a new
one in SAPI 5, but it wasn't available in SAPI 4 (SA2004). This leads me to
believe that you *might* be able to create a new user at the *end* of the
training. It's probably worth a try, only takes a few minutes. If you
don't get offered the option, you can probably still cancel the update if
you don't want to trash the female training.

I also did some googling and it seems with XP the user is actually your
logon user id. That being the case, the only way to create a new one is to
create a new user id, logon to that id when you want to use that voice. I
hope that isn't what it takes, but it looks like it may be.
To do so, you can perform the following steps:

    a. Click Start and click Control Panel. Double click the User Accounts icon.
    b. Click the "Create a new account" link.
    c. Follow the wizard to create a new user account.

Before you do the above, you might try logging on as the Admin if you setup
XP where your main logon isn't the admin account, and then fire up SA004 and
see if you user profile changes to Admin on the voice/input tab.

Just fishing...trying to find a solution.....
