Struggling with Co-ordinates Nuvi 2597

    Hi, have used co-ordinates for UK addresses occasionally and all's well. Came to enter sites to visit in France and Germany, co-ordinates taken from Google Maps, and they point to entirely wrong location. So many options on the co-ordinates settings on Nuvi 2597, and I've changed a few, but don't really know what I'm doing. Restore to default doesn't seem to work so I'm stuck now. Any help with the settings for co-ordinates would be much appreciated. We're caravaners and off for a couple of weeks holiday in France and Germany.

    If you could give an example taken from Google maps it would help to see the problem

    ok, 49.122046 6.167622 is Metz (France) Municipal Camp Site. If I enter that into Google maps it shows correct location. If I enter those details into my Garmin using coordinate Format h ddd.ddddd and Datum WGS-84, it puts me in the Atlantic South West of Cornwall.

    O.K. You need to set, Settings >> Units & Time >> Position Format >> Coordinate Format to h ddd.ddddd, this selects Degrees only, not Degrees and Minutes or Degrees, Minutes and Seconds.

    Then in Where To >> Coordinates you will see that apart from the Numbers you have North, South, East and West, In your example 49.122046 is North and 6.167622 is East, so you enter N49.12204 and E006.16762

    oh Nuvi-Newbie you're a star. The Units & Time settings as you said were already set as such, it was the 6.16etc. number I was setting as W and not E. I feel quite stupid now, but thanks so much, we'll find our way precisely now. Just thought, I suppose anything East of Grenwich would be E and not W, duh.

    Glad it's sorted, it's just that the rest of Europe is the other side of the Grenwich meridian, it can get confusing, sometimes North is dispayed as '+' or even nothing, while South is '-', the same applies with East being '+' or nothing and West being '-', I think the Garmin way is the clearest
