I have a Record of Survey that uses the traditional projected point format. The document also has a grid referenced to the survey reference point

the initial point is 10,000 / 10,000 (Survey feet)

    The next point is 10160.23 / 10,232.02 N55°22'23"E 281.97 ft

I don't possess a theodolite let alone know how to use one.

I have a Garmin GPSMAP 65S Multiband receiver this unit and others have a user grid option under position format.

Has anyone out there setup a GPS to use this option to use a grid like this?

I don't think there is enough information above to translate into a GPS coordinate, I can't see how the initial 10,000 / 10,000 position can be translated into latitude and longitude the second position is a direction and distance, so from the initial point you would travel in a direction of 55 degrees measuring from North towards East, you would travel in this direction for 281 feet, this new point is 160 feet North and 232 feet East of the initial point

OK you need the latitude / longitude of the 10,000 / 10,000 point, you enter this as a Waypoint into your 65S then :-

    1. Menu > Menu > Waypoint Manager
    2. Select the Waypoint you created above
    3. Menu > Project Waypoint
    4. Enter degrees (55) > Done
    5. Select feet
    6. Enter feet (281) > Done
This will generate a new waypoint 281 feet away from the original
