Garmin Basecamp is a computer program for both Windows and Mac platforms, that allows the user to communicate with Garmin GPS devices, in order to transfer Waypoints, Tracks, Routes Maps etc. in both directions. It can also be used to view maps and create Waypoint, Tracks, Routes etc. that can then be transferred to your Garmin GPS unit.
Basecamp can be download (Free of charge), from this Garmin site :-

    Basecamp Maps
Basecamp can use maps from several different sources, maps that are downloaded to the computer by Garmin Express are automatically made available to Basecamp, also Basecamp can use any maps that are installed onto a Garmin device that is connected to the computer that is running Basecamp, files that Basecamp uses on your Garmin device are usually stored in /Garmin/*.img or /Map/*.img, it is also possible for Basecamp to access *.img files without the GPS unit being present by placing a copy of the *.img files on a USB flash drive using the same folder / file names as the Garmin unit or by creating a virtual USB flash drive on your computer and placing the *.img files into it

    NOTE
It is not possible to import *.img files directly into Basecamp because the computer's registry needs to be aware of them, this is normally done with an installation *.bat file

Past and Present versions of Garmin Basecamp can be downloaded from here :-
