I am researching for a new hiking gps unit. and am wondering about the following questions.

    1. recommend Oregon 6xx series (prob 600, I don't care about the camera) OR eTrex 30 series OR 64 series?

    2. Should I get the "t" (Topo maps part, or just download maps as I want them)? I've read a lot about gpsfiledepot but never used it.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Most of the map I've looked at from gpsfiledepot were quite old (5 years +), many also appear to be sourced from Open Street Maps which are free, so if you are being asked to pay for them I would have a look at the Open Street Map Site, if they have what you want you can download files that can be installed onto Garmin Basecamp from HERE, they are usually updated every few weeks
