As I do a couple times a year, I just charged the battery and updated the maps on my Nuvi 2360 LMT. I turned on the device and notice that the volume is so low that I can barely hear it. It's not gone... just extremely low.

I've tried adjusting the volume and the adjustment seems to work in that lower adjustments lower the volume, but below about 70% I cannot hear it at all and even at 100% it is barely audible, even holding the device to my ear.

All volumes are affected... the voice output as well as the beeps when I press an item on the screen.

Resetting the device didn't help. No adjustments seem to help.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

If this problem is affecting all 2360 users I guess Garmin will correct it, however even if they do it may take some time, Garrmin don't seem very keen on users going back to previous versions of software and don't make any provision for it in Garmin Express for example, however if you can obtain the previous software file it is possible to force the unit to install a previous version

There is some risk in trying to roll back to a previous software version so beware you may stop your 2360 from working at all, the file you require may be on this website :-

You MUST ensure that you are using the correct file for the download, there are some installation notes here :-

Since posting this originally, the device has been sitting in the closet. I pulled it out and ran the latest update. The sound issue is still there and I am wondering if there was a software issue that caused it.

When I first got this device, I made a backup copy of the entire contents of the the device. I am now making a complete copy of the entire contents again.

My question... if, under Windows Explorer, I completely remove ALL files and folders on the Garmin and then copy back all the files and folders from the backup I did when it was new, would there be a reasonable possibility that the device will work (at least as well as it does now)?

This is not something I have ever done so everything that follows is speculation, I think that there is a possibility that you can revert back to a backed up operating system, however there is a real danger of the unit being permanently damaged

In your original post you only talk about updating maps and not the operating system so I am not sure if the OS has ever been updated in which case your back will be the same as you have on the unit, you could back up the OS on the unit now and compare it to the original backup

The danger with the procedure is losing contact with the unit half way through the file transfer and the possibility that you don't have a full set of OS files backed up due to some files being hidden / inaccessible, but if you concider the unit unusable as it is then I guess you don't have much to lose

If you attempt the file transfer please let us know how it goes by posting in this thread

As I look at the contents of the Nuvi, I see something which may indicate what the problem may be.

In the folder .System\Diag\EventLogs, I find a handful of .txt files. The first spotted files date to 12/29/2023, then from 3/12/2025 and again today. What I am finding is that the device seems to only keep the last 8 so I cannot go back to see what may have been before.

Is there any way to make a determination of what might be indicated by these logs?

I dont have a .System\Diag\EventLogs folder on my Nuvi, it is possible that the files are stored in a different location, eg :- .System\Diag\Shutdown has html files showing why the unit shutdown, can you share one of of your EventLogs files?

I will attach the oldest and newest that I have, the oldest being from 12/29/2023 and the newest being from a couple days ago. Given that they are named sequentially, I am guessing there were 211 prior logs that are lost forever.

I don't understand all of these logs but I think their reference to 'VOL' is Volume as in computer file sub folder rather than how loud something is, here are some other meanings :-

NVM_TAG_EVL_MEM_LOGS
NVM_TAG_EVL_ARCH_LOGS

NVM = Non volatile memory
TAG = ?
EVL = Event Log
Mem = Memory
ARCH = Archive

It's possible that GFS means Garmin File System, and Vol:00 and Vol:01 may mean the two file volumes... I have an SD card to add 32GB to the measly 8GB of main unit. FYI, when I did the 12/2023 update (first one using SD card), the Garmin storage was filled to 99%. After the recent update, the old maps were deleted from the Garmin resident storage and the new map stored on the SD card. Garmin storage was significantly reduced.

I am hesitant to try replacing things without some clarity as to what the files in the .System folder are.
