My Garmin etrex H was working fine for years and I was able to connect it to my Windows PC using a serial to USB cable. When I noticed that the date was showing incorrectly on the device, I ran the firmware upgrade to v3.60 and the problem was solved. However, since them, I have been unable to read data from the device. I connect to it as normal and the serial to USB connection (via the COM port) is working OK. The read is attempted by the Windows program - no error is given straight away - but then after about 10 seconds it gives the error saying it cannot read the device and to put it into 'GARMIN' mode. The device is in this mode and offers no configuration options for this mode (baud rate and the like). Has the firmware upgrade disabled the ability to send data? (Can I reinstall the older version again?).
