The title says it all. When updating sometime in the last year, the choice of English as a language was removed. Now the only language choice is French. Resetting made no difference.

Options before it goes in the trash?

I would try a Master Reset

NOTE : This will erase all user data (but not maps), so back-up before proceeding

  1. To verify the device is powered off and not in standby mode, press and hold down the power button until prompted to turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the lower right hand corner of the display portion of the touchscreen.
  3. Power on the device while continuing to hold the display
  4. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when "Erase all user data?" appears
  5. Touch Yes
You may have to try this several times before the Erase screen appears

Well I have performed the master rest 3 times but the only voice language available is Francais Canadian, even though the keyboard and text language are set to English. Afraid this is headed to the trash unless this can be resolved.

Ah, so you are saying the spoken voice language is French only, you didn't make that at all clear, I assummed the on-screen written language was French only.

You can add spoken voice languages as follows :-

  • Download and install the Garmin Express application.
  • Connect the device.
  • Click Tools & Content.
  • Click the Utilities tab.
  • Scroll to Optional Updates.
  • Click Language Files and select the desired language(s)
  • Scroll down and click Install Now.

Garmin has a free program called Voice Studio that allows you to create your own spoken Voice Language for most Garmin Satnavs, you can record your own voice or import audio files generated elsewhere to the program and output directly to a Garmin Satnav or create a *.VPM file for manual download to your Garmin /Voice folder

EDIT

Alternative Voice Studio link

The utilities function did the trick. Many thanks for your help. Ironically I live less than 10 miles from a Garmin engineering office, so you saved me the trip.
