Methods vary from model to model, so the details below are only a general guide :-
FULL POWER OFF (SOFT RESET) for Nuvis
A short press of the power button only places your Nuvi into standby, to perform a full power off and also to perform a soft reset, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, during this time you may get a message i.e.:- 'Turn Off the Device Cancel / Off' or the unit may just turn off. A turn on after this procedure may require a longer than normal power button press
WARNING :- the procedures below usually returns the unit to 'Factory Settings', so all user settings, favourites etc. will need to be re-entered
HARD RESET Nuvi method 1
Turn unit on, View Map, Tap 'Speed' icon to display the trip counter screen, press and hold the speed icon (usually in the middle of the display with 0mh), after 5 seconds a Diagnostics Page will be displayed, Select 'Clear all user Data' >> 'Erase All user Data' Y/N >> Select Yes
HARD RESET Nuvi method 2
Perform a full power off on the Nuvi, power unit back on (this may require a longer than normal button press), when the 'Garmin' logo appears press and hold the lower right hand corner of the display, after several seconds, 'Erase All user Data' Y/N will be displayed, select Yes
