Any Recommendations for brand and size of SD Card for this unit?

Thanks

My personal experience with a number of SD cards in various devices is
simply to buy the cheapest.

Any Recommendations for brand and size of SD Card for this unit?

The Garmin tech told me 2GB maximum.
I'm actually using a 4GB card.

During a discussion on this subject on a forum I'm in,
there were also 8GB and 16GB cards being used in a
255W, by different people, without any problems.

I usually go for SanDisk but I've had a faulty one of
those in the past. No problem getting it changed,
which may be the advantage of a well known brand.

You pays your money and takes your chance !

basic choice - under 2GB vs over 2GB which is SDHC
and should be ok with 2,4,8, etc - but that is a LOT of space.

Next is the speed, or class - basic cards are Class 2 -

IF I might use the card in a camera, then I tend to get larger capacity +
faster class.
If not - like with a microSD - then I just grab whatever,
and get one with the micro-adapter.

Lastly - depending upon what you might be loading on the card,
I tend to use an external USB card reader as they are usually much faster
than the native USB interface on the GPS or any of my cameras...

The full European mapping takes up 1.72 GB,
which was too much for my 6-week old 255W.

I presume that NA mapping would require similar space.

I've got an SD card reader built into this laptop.

Was that trying to put it into the 255W memory?

Have a new 205W. Just put the full CNEU plus Spain Topo, about 3.5GB,
on to a 4GB SD card, and the original local region is still in the
memory.

Loads up OK

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I'm going to get a 8 Gig card and go
from there.

You might like to check that it will work with 8GB. Garmin used to recommend
a maximum of 2GB, though that might have changed.
