Transmitting/Receiving NMEA

I'm looking to set up a system that allows me to receive the NMEA data that is being received by a GPS receiver that is on a vehicle somewhere in the country (USA). I wish to remain at a fixed location but to know, when the GPS unit is powered on, where it is.

I'm assuming I have to have some sort of transmitter accompany the GPS as well as another receiver located where I am at but am not 100% sure.

Please please help, thank you!
